The International Window Film Association (IWFA) has announced its use of several social media platforms, including Facebook, Twitter and YouTube, to engage consumers in discussions on the benefits of installing film.

“We see the combination of our social media and web pages, along with articles in traditional media channels, as an integrated ‘one stop shop’ to educating consumers on the many benefits of window film,” says Darrell Smith, executive director of the nonprofit IWFA. “Social media make[s] the conversation surrounding window film more accessible and consumer-friendly. Window film is an affordable way to update living spaces and consumers deserve to know about it.”

Benefits the IWFA is discussing with consumers include the following points: “Savings on your cooling costs can reach up to 30 percent with window film,” “UV rays entering the living area may fade furnishings, create hot spots and harm the skin, but window film can block up to 99 percent of harmful UV rays,” “For each dollar spent on window film, the money invested can provide more cost-effective energy savings when compared to replacement windows,” and “Window film is a simple way to help reduce your energy use and when installed, it can assist in cutting the demand on utilities, which may further reduce carbon emissions.”

This month I would like to discuss the social media tool that most people have a hard time associating with business opportunity, Twitter. Most people view Twitter as a place for people to broadcast mostly meaningless posts about the nuances of their daily life. That being the case, some wonder why a business would be interested in involvement with this platform. While I may agree that much of what you see on Twitter may be small details of people’s lives, I still feel there is an opportunity for businesses to use this platform to engage their community. The secret lies in a little known feature called Twitter Search and listening. You can find the launch page here: http://twitter.com/#!/search-home

Watch the video below to learn why this tool is so important.
