It’s a Plan
I recently had to buy a giant whiteboard calendar. It has been attached to my fridge for two weeks and I can’t believe I didn’t think of this sooner. My household schedule is fairly insane. My fiancé works a rotating work schedule (two days on, two days off, three days on, two days off, etc.) and is currently on a night shift. In order to keep track of his days working and training I had to find a better solution than just holding it all in my head. This calendar has become my life-saver. I record everything on it now—when bills are due, what days are trash days, vet appointments, and it includes a running list of things that need to get done that month like wedding preparations and doctor’s appointments that need to be made. Luckily I do not have children yet because I think the calendar would literally explode.
Maybe some of you have similar calendars in your house or shop and have seen the value of planning ahead. I am guessing you have an appointment calendar for work, but what about a goal calendar, similar to my list of things to accomplish that month. I speak to so many window film shops that want to expand their business or learn how to effectively use social media, but just never seem to be able to get around to it. The key for me has been setting smalls goals that build to one ultimate task. So let’s say, for example, that you want to get all of your installers re-trained to keep them on top of their game. For April, your goal can be just calling around to find out what different companies are offering, where and when. Then, for June, have a meeting with your staff and find out the time and location that will work for everyone. Make training a priority in the month of July and August and by the end of the summer you have accomplished one big goal with lots of little tasks. It sounds simple, but it can make a huge difference.
Part of the reason I bring this up is because there is something major on the horizon that definitely needs to be on your calendar. The International Window Film Tint-Off and Conference™ will be in Memphis, Tenn., September 15-16. Registration is officially open, but early bird registration ends on May 31 so put it on your April/May to-do list to register now while registration fees are at their lowest. Also, registration to compete in the Tint-Off is already booming and I know you have an installer that you are dying to show-off. Make sure you get them registered before the spots fill up.
Registration for attending the event and competing is available on-line.
