Peoria Ordinance Goes After Illegal Tinters

A new city ordinance in Peoria, Ill., will enable police to not only go after vehicle owners and operators for illegally-tinted front windows, but also the shops that installed it. Businesses will now be charged anywhere from $100 to $1,000 for darkening front windows.

“The new ordinance will target the manufacture, or the people who are installing the tint,” Peoria Councilman George Jacob told WEEK News 25. “That’s going to be illegal as well in the city of Peoria.”

“I go to the extreme to make sure they know what they are getting themselves into,” Matt Fleming, owner of Window Tinting by Fleming explained to the local news provider. “If they ask and are persistent, and I think I'll lose the customer, I’ll do it; but I’m very forthcoming that it’s illegal and they shouldn’t. I have the statute right here on my desk, highlighted, [stating] that they’re not supposed to do it.”
