Madico Joins GE to Protect Childcare Centers

Madico Inc., has announced its participation in GE's Project SafeguardSM, an initiative to raise awareness of the dangers of flying glass and improve the safety of childcare centers.

Developed in conjunction with the Protecting People First Foundation, Project Safeguard was a major component of GE's second annual Community Day, a Chicago-based event in which more than 300 GE employees volunteered their time and skills to improve their community. Madico donated more than 200 yards of its Protekt® safety film, which is designed to help reduce damage and injury caused by shattered glass by binding the dangerous shards together. Trained and certified Madico partners installed the film.

"Madico is pleased to collaborate with such a responsible corporate citizen as GE," said Tom Niziolek, director of sales and marketing for Madico Inc. "GE clearly recognizes the dangers presented by flying glass, and [its] employees should be commended for taking such an active role in protecting our most valuable asset: our children."

During the May 14, 2004 event, Project Safeguard volunteers applied film on three facilities operated by the Jane Addams Hull House Association: The LeClaire-Hearst Community Center, Ryder Child Care Facility and the LeClaire-Hearst School Age Program. The centers serve more than 120 children every day and more than 500 families and hundreds of community members weekly with special events, educational programs and activities. In 2003, Madico films were installed on three other child centers.

"Community involvement is fundamental to GE because our lives are connected to Chicago in a special way," said Joyce Robinson of the GE/NBC Chicago Corporate Citizenship Committee. "GE Community Day enables us to reach out to the community we live and work in to touch lives beyond our everyday work."
