Louisiana Law May Change for Security and Medical Exemptions

Current Louisiana state law provides that certain motorists may be granted a security or medical exemption allowing them to tint all windows on a registered vehicle. This may soon change, however, as a bill recently was proposed that would exclude the area below the top six inches of the windshield.

Lousiana House Bill 839 (H.B.) only allows window tinting of the first six inches of the windshield of a motor vehicle associated with a person with a security or medical exemption. Sponsored by Rep. Nita Rusich Hutter (R), H.B. 839 was introduced March 21, 2008. Since then, the bill has passed through the Committee on Transportation Highways and Public Works and a Senate floor debate. The bill was passed by a vote of 34 yeas and 0 nays and ordered returned to the House after being signed by the president of the Louisiana State Senate on May 22.
