Stork Materials Technology, a network of material testing laboratories that's based out of New Berlin, Wis., has announced it will host two upcoming webinars pertaining to plastics and coatings. The technical seminars will be presented by Stork experts Todd Seversen, coatings engineer, and Niles Stenmark, senior materials scientist.

Thursday, January 29, 2009, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. CST, Seversen will discuss the common test techniques and corrosion protection mechanisms associated with paint and coating materials used to improve the corrosion resistance of coated articles. This presentation will focus on paint materials and failures that can occur from factors such as improper surface preparation or overly aggressive service conditions. According to Stork officials, studies have shown that one out of every four plastic failures is caused by environmental stress cracking (ESC). Wednesday, February 4, 2009,?from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. CST, Stenmark will provide information on the interaction between chemicals and plastics. Topics will include: an explanation of the ESC failure mechanism, factors that affect the resistance of plastics to ESC, and examples and case studies of related failure modes.
